Week 8

Well, looks like I will be getting a chance to put my new skills to use.  My son has to do a presentation on dinosaurs.  Among his options on things to use is PowerPoint.  So I can help him out with my new knowledge.

I will also put my new study skills to use in my two up coming classes.  Like I said before I have gained some new knowledge that I plan on putting to use.

PowerPoint

Never had to really deal with PowerPoint before.  It wasn't as hard as it appeared.  PowerPoint has a lot of features. Basically, I had to create a presentation using personal information and some info that I learned from the last eight weeks.  The teacher gave us step by step instructions.  It probably would have been difficult if I had to create one on my own without his help.  But, at least I now have experienced and learned the basics of PowerPoint.

Week 7

Well this course is finally coming to an end. It has been an interesting and informative course. One thing that I got a chance to do was create this blog. Something that I would have never done if I hadn't of taken this class. I always thought blogging was hard but it turned out to be easy.  I still don't feel to comfortable about participating in discussion forums.  But, I see that if I'm going to continue with online school that I'm going have to get over that fear.
This week was kind of easy. I got a chance to play around with PowerPoint.

Shorter Online Resources

I learned about Shorter's Online Library.  A lot of the resources that Shorter has are real expensive if you were to subscribe to them on your own.  I got information over load just browsing through them.

APA

Learned about the APA style.  Had to find several references and put them in the APA writing style.  It was a real pain at first but it got easier with practice.  Really just let word handle the formatting and OWL was helpful. I also bought the Concise Rules of APA Style.

Taking Exams

I read a chapter on how to take essay exams. To me essay exams are one of the most hardest exams to take because it isn't about just remembering information  or filling in the blanks. You actually have to write out the topic in your own words and do a great deal of thinking. Hopefully some of the pointers that I picked up will stay with me.

Exam preparation and review strategies

Before reading this information I never knew that there were so many ways to prepare and review for an exam. The professor wanted me to just pick three of them. My head was literally swim as I tried to pick out the best ones for my use. After careful consideration of my prior study habits I chose the following.
By far the most helpful to me is the end of chapter tests. Those tests always have the relevant information that you will need.
Text Notes
 End of the Chapter tests
Create a Study Sheet

Recite Information Using the Headings as Cues
 Practice Reciting Answers
Practice Reciting Out Loud or in Writing
